We aim to become a creative and educational workspace or “community incubator” for decentralization projects that benefit Vancouver’s tech community, the downtown eastside, and the world at large. We can imagine a future where communities trade their worth on the free market Eventually, we will transform this spot into a Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) with a Web of Trust member system – but for the time being it’s being funded out of our own pockets. Thirsty Camel Cafe

Thirsty Camel Cafe

The Thirsty Camel was opened in July 2004, by cousins and friends Ilan Goldenblatt and Yadin Shaikovitz. The two grew up in the same neighbourhood in Haifa, Israel. In 2007 Yadin left the restaurant to pursue other interests leaving Ilan as sole proprietor. The Camel sprung out of Ilan and Yadin’s love for good food and community, and their shared goal to create a healthy restaurant in Nanaimo. It was founded with a conscious effort to bring people together in a restaurant experience that goes beyond the ordinary, in an environment that encourages interaction, discussion and inspiration, and helps foster a vibrant community. All the food we serve is prepared at the restaurant preservative and filler free. We start with the bare ingredients and produce small batches to maintain optimal freshness. We make our own hot sauce from eight ingredients. We make our own Persian Spice mix from eighteen ingredients. We make our own Jerusalem mix spice mix from seven ingredients. Our Chicken is free range, veggie fed, non-medicated., from Nanaimo’s award winning butchers, Piper’s Meats. Our magazine rack is stocked with thought provoking magazines, such as: AdBusters, Harper’s, This Magazine, The Permaculture Activist, The Fifth Estate, The New Internationalist, EnlightenNext magazine and more. We aspire to be an independent, innovative, community fostering part of downtown Nanaimo. As we grow our aim is to use as many locally produced and organic ingredients as we can. So far we have purchased and used ingredients from Dirk Becker’s Compassion Farm, from Providence farm in Duncan, and from Adrian’s market farm. Thank you, our customers, employees and supporters, for supporting an alternative to mainstream fast food culture. We put a lot of energy and love into our food, drink and space. If you enjoy the experience, please tell your friends, family, and co-workers about us.

Buyers Best Friend

Buyers Best Friend

About Us Buyer's Best Friend started out in 2010 as the world's largest catalog of wholesale specialty and natural products. We couldn’t keep all this great stuff to ourselves, so in the summer of 2012, we brought our incredible wholesale catalog of artisanal foods, inspired gifts and gorgeous kitchenware products directly to consumers at our flagship San Francisco store, Buyer’s Best Friend - Wholesale & Mercantile (Haight Ashbury). Soon after, we opened Mercato, in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood and our third San Francisco store in the Ferry Building’s South Hall. Don’t worry, if you don't live in San Francisco, you can shop anytime at our online store where our entire catalog of incredible goods is available, and we offer $5 flat rate shipping anywhere in the United States. No matter where you live, Buyer’s Best Friend is the perfect local source for hard-to-find local and award-winning foods and great holiday gifts. Consumers and wholesale buyers can stop by our stores anytime to sample everything in the store – and we mean everything – from the Bay Area’s own CC Made caramel corn, Emmy’s Pickles & Jams, to authentic aged Balsamic from the Malpighi family from Modena, Italy and real Swedish candy from Candy People of Sweden. Who We Are Founded in 2010 in San Francisco by foodie insider Joyce Guan and Google engineer Adam Sah, Buyer’s Best Friend was launched from the back room of a restored Victorian on Haight Street in San Francisco as a resource for the wholesale food trade. With their insider’s grasp of the gourmet food industry, Buyer’s Best Friend’s experienced team quickly built the world’s largest wholesale catalog of unique foods, kitchenware and personal products. Buyers from large and small organizations equally passionate about quality - Whole Foods Markets, Nordstrom’s Espresso Bars, Google's corporate campus, and independent retailers such as Bi-Rite Market and Zingerman’s, among others - immediately recognized Buyer’s Best Friend’s ability to match artisan producers with the needs of their consumers. With this strong base, Buyer’s Best Friend quickly developed a nationwide reputation as the go-to source for delicious, well-crafted and hard-to-find foods, kitchenware and amazing gifts from the Bay Area, the United States and beyond.
