An MHS (Motion Head Shot) is a moving portrait, a rich living image of depth and light. It’s a “painting in motion” utilizing the visual penetration of chiaroscuro and sfumato from classic portraiture of antiquity and the renaissance but with a modern setting and attire.
Think of this as a screen test or cinematic moving headshot, about 30 to 120 seconds in length, that you can send out to agents, casting directors and producers as a link.
A story can also be conveyed in the elements and symbols surrounding the main subject; flowing materials, subtle placement of relevant objects, lush out-of-focus landscapes in the backgrounds or even a “film noir” theme.
Motion Head Shots can be streamed and viewed on iPhones, iPads and various digital photo frames that are on the market. Also, a digital moving portrait can be hung on a wall like a photo or work of art; using dedicated HD monitors, turned sideways as a means to display a moving portrait.
The most exciting aspect is providing you with a medium to portray emotionality and presence in a short clip that has a filmic quality and look. It would also allow you to convey personality, facial expressions, turning the head for profile views, coloration of eyes and skin tone in motion, going from smiling warm eyes to tears to astonishment.
Subtleties that a mere still image can’t provide.
